Alappuzha : No overspeeding riders on road. Two-wheeler stuntmen have left the scene. Overtaking by left, illegal parking, mobile usage while driving - all these and more have come down and well. Traffic violations have reduced drastically with installment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras, said the Motor Vehicle department.
As per Motor Vehicle data, there occurs on an average rougly, 2500 road violations per district each day. That number figured at2 460 on 12th of April. With cameras functional from the 20th, the numbers slid to below 2000.
A notable reduction was seen in numbers of people on two-wheelers without helmets.. Also, overtaking on left and three rider on two-wheelers have come down. The Motor Vehicle Dept expects the numbers to reduce further as violators begin to pay fine from 20th of May.
Helmet sales ris
The district witnessed a whopping 70 percent rise in helmet sales after AI Cameras came to be fitted. Sale of women and child helmets too have increased Kids helmet costs comparatively more. Once fines come to be levied the helmet sales is expected to take off still higher, say vendors.
