Car Plunges Into Lake After Collision With Auto; Off-duty Fire Rescue Staff Become Saviours

Chavara : In a heroic rescue, fire-fighting staff, off their duty, save lives of a woman and her young  son, after the car they were traveling in veered out of control following a collision and sank into nearby lake.  Victims hauled out from the watery nightmare were  : Veena Anu S. Nair from kalathil in Kuzhamkulam and her 10-year-old son. The saviours, whose courage and timely action helped save lives are : sttaff attached to Chavara Fire Rescue in Karunagapally – N Naufar and MS Mithun.

Two autorickshaws collided with one another near Puzhakulam junciton and then  one of them went on to  hit an oncoming car before overturning itself. The car hit by auto,  lost control and veered into the lake. The accident took place Sunday morning, 9.15 am.

Passengers in both autos sustained injuries. Their identities are ; driver of the dual-hit auto, Vinod(38)  from Padiththatil in Chavara Thanimood Municipality, Pathanamthitta native Sreepadathil Shreeja(47), son Shravan(10),  Susiladevi(73) from bandhi Chavara Puthucaud Adharshil and driver of the second auto naufal(33) from Jayilsha Cottage in Thevalakkara.

It was a holiday and Naufar was onway to Thevalkara when he noticed a car slipping into the lake.  A crowd gathered, but were unsure what to do.  Naufar soon  threw himself into the lake and as he swam close to the car, he noticed the woman and child trapped inside. Meanwhile, Midhun was on his way to a marriage function and stopped by the crowd to enquire what the matter was. 

On noticing Naufar attempting to help the trapped passengers,  Midhun too jumped up close behind. The car had all glasses pulled up and Naufar and Midhun called for ropes to be thrown in. The car was soon looped and all on shore helped drag the vehicle out.  A small delay could have proved catastrophic, said Midhun.

Visuals of the rescue viralled on social media triggering  loads of felicitations for Naufar and Midhun for their bravery at their homes.
