New Delhi :The Supreme Court came down heavily on CBI over its transfer plea seeking for shifting murder trial in Kathriroor Manoj case to outside Kerala. The CBI petition was dismissed by Bench comprising Justices S Raviindra Bhatt and Krishna Murari.
The court minced no words in stating the CBI motive was purely political.
The additional solicitor general appearing for CBI said there could be influence from political circles within the state. To this the court responded byasking “The CBI did investigations. The trial is at CBI court in Ernakulam. So is this to say the CBI judge can be influenced?.”. The same theory could apply against CBI as well, the court added.
The Bench observed it found no basis for CBI request and turned it down all and sundry.
The Case : RSS leader Kathirroor Manoj was murdered on 1 September, 2014. CBI took over the investigations the very next month. There are a total of 25 accused in the case.
