Census To Be Carried Out Carefully, CM Tells Enumerators

Web Desk‌Updated: Monday Feb 10, 2020

ALAPPUZHA : Teachers  who go about surveying for Census should bear in mind that Kerala will not in any case enumerate data for Centre’s  National Population Register(NPR), said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday. We must seriously view that, there are conspiracies being hatched to destroy  the State’s potential to respond, he  said.  Pinarayi was speaking at the public conference - an event that was part of KSTA State Conference - held at EMS stadium in Alappuzha.

Census is a generally recognized exercise. All that needs to be known is cursory details pertaining to households. There is nothing wrong asking what the names and ages of the family members are. These are not data integral to NPR. It is purely a count of people who live here. Census activity therefore should be limited to just these minimal details, the minister reminded.

Kerala bears a high degree of responsiveness. The State’s youth are the biggest contributors in this sense. And, there is broader conspiracy to destroy the trend. Substance abuse has now become rampant among students. Drug gangs are actively engaged in targeting the student community, who innocently fall for their traps. While internet and mobile phones add to the factor, it is not practical to do away with these. At times, the young even reach a point where they would willfully end their lives from internet oriented motivation.

Urging to stay rightful response in place, CM said, when a section of people oppose protesters of Citizenship Amendment, it would do good to recognize these individuals seek to help.
