Kochi : The 2020 Education policy ushered by Central government is one denying the right to education, said Delhi University professor  Antha Rampal. The right to education was gotten after great hardships. The Centre's policy is destroying just that, said Anitha Rampal, delivering the Susheela Gopalan memorial  address in prelude to the 13th national conference of All India Democratic Women’s Association(AIDWA).

Without any kind of discussion, the new education policy was passed in the Parliament under the cover of Covid. This new policy will create new hierarchies in  society. The students good at  academics would be able to pursue further learning while the rest will be led to technical courses. What’s needed of an education system is devlopment of  all-round abilities in all students. However, the key thing the  new policy is that, this is not going to happen. The atmosphere  now is that anyone questioning the Centre would land  up in jail, said Anitha Rampal.

Speaking at the event, film director Aisha Sultana said, she was charged with sedition  for saying that  the problems of Lakshadweep islanders must be understood and be helped with development.  I am making a new film titled “124 A” the section under which the sedition  falls. The film is about the Central government that silences anyone using this section if they were to question the govt, said Aisha, adding that Kerala has come with immense support for the islanders whenever in distress.

AIDWA Vice President PK Sreemati presided over the program at  AJ Hall, Kaloor. State President Susan Kodi, Secretary CS Sujatha, Treasurer E Padmavathi, Central Committee member KS Salikha, District President TV Anitha and Secretary Pushpa Das were speakers at the function. Mini Sabu sang the welcome song.

Floral tributes(pushparchana) were paid at Smriti Mandapam in Chirpanchira under aegis of Death Anniversary Committee(Charma Varshika Dinacharana Committee). Family members, members of CPI(M) feeder organisations and public took part in the floral offerings ceremony.  MM Mani inaugurated the memorial meeting. CK Surendran presided over the event. Speakers included KR Bhagirathan and J Jayalal .
