Kochi : The Centre must not ruin livelihood of those working overseas, said Kerala Pravasi Sangham General Secretary, KV Abdul Khadar. Those responsible for the recent proclamations that adversely impact expats, should be put behind bars. To set record straight with foreign countries, the Prime Minister should directly intervene and invoke action.
The Central govt does not provide any kind of benefit to expats. It is expats abroad that funnel huge sums of of foreign currency into the country. In the last fiscal year, this community has sent over 89 billion dollars into the country. Lakhs of crores of foreign currency is pumped into the Indian economy each year by them. Forget that there are no welfare schemes for expat community, these kind of acts home are dangerous for them.
BJP leaders from India’s ruling party recently made derogatory remarks on prophet Muhammad that in turn has triggered huge repercussions from Gulf countries. By engaging in this manner, those in the higher echelons of governance are the condemning the country’s constitution itself. Also, it is unacceptable that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not responded directly in this regard.
There are crores of Indians who work abroad without difference to religions, caste or community of their orientation. Gulf counties alone have lakhs of such expats. A govt that does nothing for their wellbeing should at least refrain from causing them harm, said Abdul Khadar.
Context : BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Navin Kumar Jindal made derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad triggering nations in Arab world to denounce India and warn repercussions including boycott of Indian goods.
