Thiruvananthapuram :  The country is being ruled by gross sinners who are trading life and breath in speculative market, said Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac. India stands in shame before the world over its apathy in fighting Covid. More widespread than the virus itself is apathy and mismanagement, said Thomas Isaac on his FB  post.

The central authorities  do not have  the ability, Insight or interest to bring down rising Covid numbers. India is the vaccine capital of the world. Doses from here are transported at lower prices around the globe. Even so, the country denies vaccine to vast majority of its own population. The government’s  restrictions block production from reaching their full capacities. People are dying without oxygen to breathe while government amuses itself tightening red tapes further.

At no point has  the government considered taking public sector units into confidence for  manufacturing vaccines.  Despite gaining vaccine-production approval in December of 2020, Bharat Bio-tech in Bengaluru is  only mulling over the prospect yet. The government continues to keep production tightly capped despite death numbers spirally each passing day. To make its purchase of 1 crore vaccines from private companies, Kerala will reportedly have to wait until June.

Failing to take a decision on accepting Sputnik V vaccine until in April, despite receiving a request in November of last year, also points to lack of transparency on the topic,  wrote the minister.
