Chief Minister Orders State Care, Own House For Children of Deceased Couple

Thiruvananthapuram : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered state care for Rahul and Ranjit, the two children of couple who set themselves ablaze when officials arrived at their home for eviction based on  on court ruling. CM  instructed the District Collector to enlist the children under LIFE or another project for granting them a house of their own. The children’s educational  and other expenses will be met by the government, said CM.

At 12 pm noon, on  Monday, Rajan(47) and Ambili(40)  living in  Naduthode colony in Thiruvananthapuram’s Athiyanoor panchayat , fetched kerosene stored inside their hose,  doused  themselves and set themselves ablaze in full view of the court ameen and police who had arrived to evict the family on court orders. Rajan was first to die. Ambili succumbed to her burns later at 6.30 pm evening.  

The court ruling came over a petition submitted by one Vasantha who argued that the deceased couple had built their house on her property without  consent and wanted them evicted.
