Kasaragod; The two guilty in the murder of retired teacher Janaki in Chimmeni are sentenced to life imprisonment – a total of 17 years under various sections to be served concurrently.

The culprits, once students of the slain teacher, are : Visakh(32) from Chirakulathu Puthanveedu in Puliyanoor and Arun Kumar(30) from Allarad Veedu in Raklikode.

Backdrop : On the night of 13 December, 2017, a three-member-gang made their way into Janaki teacher’s house  and left her to die after slitting her throat. They then robbed  17 pawan gold and 92,000 rupees in cash.

Police found it hard to crack the case until two months later, the father of the first accused, Visakh, came forward with a receipt for gold transaction made by his son. The paper opened the case wide and all three were arrested. During trial however, the prosecution failed  to establish guilt of the third member.
