Christmas, New Year Celebrations Trigger Covid Spike In Ages 20 – 40

Thiruvananthapuram : There is occurring  a rapid rise in Covid cases amongst ages 20-40  compared to the week before. According to a report, there took place wide social mingling during Christmas and New Year Celebrations. The report also cites  significant spike in cases amongst health workers.

With surges happening, one should upkeep vigil, said Health Minister Veena George. Unnecessary travel plans should be dropped. Health dept. preparedness in all districts are assessed. Hospital for Covid and non-Covid patients, ICU, ventilator, oxygen plants, drug supplies have been assessed.

Case tally is  rising in all districts. The Centre has been urged for reinstatement of Covid Brigade to have larger number of health workers in the scenario of pandemic escalating further, the minister said.

Home delivery of medicines
Given rapid surges, the government instructed for doorstep  delivery of medicines for people affected with lifestyle diseases. These patients do not have to be visiting Health Centres for their prescription drugs.  To up mitigation,   13 committees headed by Health Dept are being reinstated. The state is capacitated to produce 416.63 tonnes of oxygen, the minister said.

2200 new cases in Thiruvananthapuram
2200 cases were confirmed in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. It’s the first surge since months where a district is reporting daily tally above 2000. Other district numbers are : Ernakulam 1478; Thrissur 943; Kozhikode 801; Kottayam 578; Kollam 551; Palakkad 511; Kannur 17; Pathanamthitta 410; Alappuzha 347; Malappuram 309; Idukki 239; Wayanad 155; Kasaragod 118. Total of 63,898 samples were tested on the day.

There were 19 deaths Tuesday and 2064 recoveries. Total Covid death toll now stands at 50,053.  were recorded
