Thiruvananthapuram :Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a minimal of 1000 tonnes in liquid medical oxygen and 75 lakh of vaccine doses, as second wave storms the state with rising daily numbers.
With thousands hospitalized each day, oxygen supplies to hospitals have become strained. The stock is getting used up at a pace faster than replenishment necessitating centre’s help to ensure stock reserve for emergencies, CM said in the letter.
In the letter, CM requested for 500 tonnes as phase-1 Kerala share from oxygen imports received by centre and another 500 tonnes in the second. Also, 500 tonnes from steel plants among neighbouring states could be considered for the purpose, said the letter, urging the centre to give needful instructions to the foreign ministry in this regard.
