Kottakkal : Two cops were arrested for releasing illegal drugs confisticated by police. The culprits, ASI Rajichand and CP Saji Alexander attached to Kottakkal police station, were arrested by a team led by Narcotics DySP Mohan Chandran. Both men have been suspended from service, said the District Police Chief.
On 21st of June, the Kottakkal police seized a mini truck laden with gutka packets. Two men, Nazar and Ashraf were arrested in the incident. Based on complaint by the truck owner, the court ordered for police to release the vehicle after destroying the gutka load it contained. Cops Saji and Rajichand however accepted Rs 1,20,000 in bribe and released the vehicle to its owner with the illegal consignment intact.
The covert operation that led to cop arrests came after the initially accused men lodged a complaint with district police chief, Nazar and Ashraf themselves.
