Kochi : INTUC Convener in Vytilla, PG Joseph(45), has been arrested in connection with vandalising actor Joju George’s car during the Congress-led flash protest in Kochi on Monday that crippled traffic for two peak hours in the city. Former mayor Tonny Chammany is also arraigned in the case. Joseph’s wife Sony is a Congress Councilor at 52-Division in Kochi Corporation. ACP Nizammudin said more arrests will follow shortly.
In the incident, when Joju became mobbed and Congress workers including Joseph broke his car windows, shards of glass caused cuts on the accused’s hand. Joseph has a past record of criminal offences.
A total of 50 Congress workers are charged in the case for violence and obstructing traffic as well as paralysing the Highway in illegal strike. The DCC president Muhammed Shiyaz is 9th accused in the case. P Kodikunnil Suresh, KPCC Vice President VJ Paulose, General Secretary Deepti Mary Varghese, former MLAs VP Sajeendran and Dominique Presentation are also arraigned in the case.
