Kottayam: 32 families in Kottayam’s Ayarkunam including mandalam secretary quit Congress to join CPI(M). Apart from Congress workers in the area, several BJP families too quit their party to work for CPI(M).
Those severing Congress ties included Former Kottayam East Mandalam Secretary, KK Chacko Mannarkott and INTUC District Secretary, former Panchayat member from Amayanoor, Laisama Babu. Prominent among members leaving BJP were former Panchayat President and mandalam secretary KN Saseedharan and Kaduthuruthi mandalam member KR Raveendran and former Ayarkunnam Panchayat president KJ Devan.
CPI(M) District Secretary VN Vasavan inaugurated the meeting held at Ayarkunnam Payanni mandalam hall on Friday welcoming the 32 new families with garlands and bouquets. District Secretariat member TR Rahavan presided over the function. Area Secretary PN Binu and District Committee member Jack C Thomas delivered the vote of thanks.
