Widespread attacks : 13 Policemen Injured, 1 Critical; Explosives Hurled At Minister Balan’s Vehicle

Palakkad : The state on Thursday witnessed widespread attacks perpetrated by armed miscreants under the aegis of Opposition for their protest seeking Minister KT Jaleel’s resignation over Quran distribution row.  Several policemen sustained injuries including fractures from blows, kicks, boulders and stabs inflicted by goons set against the force by Congress and BJP leaderships. 13 policemen have been injured of whom, one continues to be in critical condition at the hospital. 3 policewomen too were injured in the attacks.

The cop in serious condition is a CPO attached to Palakkad Town North station, Liju, who sustained deep gashes to his cheek and chin in  stone-pelting. There are 9 stitches patching the wound. He was attacked after armed men breached barricades positioned  in front of the Civil station and stormed in.

CPOs at the Traffic station including Sunil sustained shoulder injuries. Jagadambika, a senior  CPO at Palakkad Town South station sustained wounds to his leg. Others injured in the violent attacks include CPOs Preetha, Rishkeshan, Rasheed and  Pradeep from Palakkad  North Station, Sheeba from Traffic station and a  CPO from Kozhinjampara station, Vinod.  

Congress workers pelted stones at the Ministerial  camp office in Edappal. A gang of Youth Congress workers hurled explosives at Minister AK Balan’s state vehicle in Kollam's Chavra, amid their march in the locality. Miscreants also pelted stones in that attack During Mahila march to the city commissioner’s office in Thrissur, one person was injured after falling off a barricade at the gate.
