Kannur : Police arrest Congress councilor in Kannur for rape of a woman employed with co-operative society. The accused Congress leader, PV Krishnakumar, was nabbed by led ACP T.K. Ratnakumar -led team from his hideout in Tamil Nadu.
The victim approached city police and Vanita Commission on 20 July, with her complaint accusing Krishnakumar of rape. The Edakkad police registered a case, following which, Krishnankumar slipped away and remained in hiding until now. His plea for anticipatory bail was recently rejected by court.
The sexual assault reportedly took place on July 15 at the branch office of Congress-controlled women’s cooperative. Several Congress leaders tried to coerce the victim into withdrawing the complaint. Meanwhile, a notice sent by cooperative to the victim accusing her of tainting the unit’s name, too ran into controversy.
Police conducted searches of several homes including that of Krishnakumar’s relatives but would came up empty. Based on cyber inputs on phone calls of Krihnakumar’s close associates, the police also searched localities in Bengaluru. Police secured evidences of calls Krishnakumar made to Mahila Congress leaders who were directors at the cooperative, during his run time. While absconding, Krishnakumar stayed in lodges in Bengaluru, Gudallur, Hyederabad and Wyanad
