Lucknow : Congress said it will not contest Lok Sabha bypoll slated for Rampur amd Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, claiming the party was currently engaged in preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The last time, Lok Sabha election campaign was spearheaded by Priyanka Gandhi and ended in huge defeat.
Byelection is scheduled on 23rd June for Samajwadi Party’s sitting seats of Rampur and Asamgarh. Vote counting on 26th.
Both seats fell vacant after respective MPs – Asam Khan in Rampur and Akhilesh Yadav from Azamgargh - quit their posts to become Assembly legislators. Asam Khan’s wife Fatima is contesting from Rampur and Dhamendra Yadav from Azamgarh.
