Thrissur : 10 Congress workers who took part in protests and meetings organized by the party in Thrissur are down with coronavirus. Those testing positive belong to Mannathi region in Ollur and all of them were attendees at the ceremony to mark appointment of DCC President there.
All the Congress workers, now infected, have interacted with several party leaders over the course of protests and meetings - a probable reason why, the DCC reportedly advised them to initially avoid testing and later withhold names of people they came into contact with directly, prior to Covid diagnosis.
The public meeting and protests held in Mannathi recently, seeking Minister KT Jaleel’s resignation, had violated pandemic rules blatantly. More than 70 people had crammed in those demonstrations without wearing even mandatory masks. Four among them who tested positive were shifted to Nattika primary covid care centre soon after. Another covid-positive party worker, a Marathakara native, had also participated in the Youth Congress march to the Collectorate there. Some attendees to the inaugural event of MP Vincent’s DCC presidentship too are positive for the virus. Post the event, the DCC president toured several places to inaugurate protests and meetings, where two co-operative bank directors who participated in some of these events too have been diagnosed with covid.
Two youth Congress leaders from Puthoor and two INTUC leaders too are under treatment for the virus.
