Kasaragod : DCC sought strict action against MP Rajmohan Unnithan, who has been pulled up by the High Command for an explanation over his derogatory remarks of the party in his talks with a private English channel. The video of Unnithan’s liberal lashes on Congress leadership was recorded by an hidden camera and released by the channel at a momentous time – the eve of state Assembly elections.
In the video, Unnithan claims Congress is organisationally weak in Kerala, lacking even even booth committees at root level. To the DCC, long fed up with Unnithan’s solo stunts, the High Command move comes as a cheer.
Despite complaining several times in the past, KPCC largely remained unresponsive of DCC’s citings. The complaints mostly stemmed from Unnithan’s bland defiance of DCC. It is months that Unnithan visited DCC office and remains uncommunicative for practical purposes there. Rather, Unnithan’s activities in isolation orbit around his house in Kanhangad. Unnithan is largely a failure as MP, something that becomes evident from his track record on MP fund disbursements, points out DCC. According to Congress leaders, party workers are largely in ridicule of Unnithan who jeer: : Is going to Mangalath and Muthappan Theyam enough? Shouldn’t the general public too have some benefit of having an MP?
Longstanding Supporters Turn Away
Several leaders on side with Unnithan until recently, have now turned around this time. . The mandalam representative who attended govt programs consistently without MP showing up, has quit his post. Unnithan is forever tangled in controversies, feel many. At a luncheon arranged at a house in Kasaragod during Chennithala’s ‘Ayshwarya Kerala Yathra’, Unnithan and Congress leaders confronted one another in full view. The MP allegedly shouted abuses at the mandalam president at the time. Arguments escalated and some rose handle the MP physically, following which, he raced for his car and sped away.
There also arose protest during candidate selection in Uduma and Kanhangad for Assembly election and against allocating Thrikaroor Joseph faction too. At that time, citing there was no consultation with DCC, 10 office bearers threatened to resign over decisions Unnithan effected from his influential connection with KC Venugopal. KPCC Secretary, K Neelakantan, who topped the chart for Uduma candidature, subsequently resigned his post.
Soon as elections ended, League too turned hostile. They pointed how despite the huge majority churned out by Kasaragod and Manjeswaram in the Lok Sabha elections, the Unnithan never bothered to participate in the state election campaign for the front. League leaders are also doing their own digging to find if MP’s absence was related to the huge Congress votes in the area flip over to BJP this time.
Balakrishnan who contested from Uduma was nominated by Periya MP. Reports emerged that moves were worked to flip BJP votes over to Balakrishnan there.
