Thiruvananthapuram : Akhil Sajeev, the first accused in case of conspiracy against the Health Minister’s office has been sent into police custody for 5 days after the Judicial First Class Magistrate III court in Thiruvananthapuram heard police plea seeking his custody.
Akhil Sajeev will be taken to Malappuram for purpose of evidence collection. The investigation team had told court how Akhil made attempts to derail the case against him.
The Cantonment Police on Thursday registered Akhil Sajeev’s arrest in a separate case, one that charges him with embezzling funds at the CITU office. A production warrant was issued in the case. Police believe that with Akhil Sajeev is in custody, detailed questioning will unravel the happenings in conspiracy case.
The Conspiracy Case: Malappuram native Haridasan lodged complaint with police claiming he paid Rs 1 lakh in bribe to Health Minister’s personal staff Akhil Mathew on promise of a job for his daughter-in-law with the Health Dept. He was duped, the job never came and the money was lost, Haridasan stated in his complaint.
As investigations began, strong evidences including visual footages emerged showing that Akhil Sajeev was nowhere in the picture and that Akhil Sajeev had impersonated as Akhil Mathew and conned Haridasan. It also transpired that Basit, who acted as middleman and initially helped Haridasan to lodge the complaint too was found to be part of the broader conspiracy against Health Minister's office.
