THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Fresh cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the State, said Health Minister KK Shailaja. All of who tested positive for the virus this time, hail from Pathanamthitta district. Three among them had just returned from Italy, she added. The minister was speaking at a press conference called shortly after an emergency meeting held to assess latest situation.
All persons down with the virus are being treated at the hospital. The results from Pune Virology arrived only this morning confirming presence of the virus in these individuals.
Three of a family comprising 55-year-old man, his wife and 22-year-old son, had arrived from Italy only days back. A little after that, the man’s older brother was hospitalised with fever conditions and began to show symptoms of the virus. Workers from the Health Department probed more into his backdrop and learned of the family that had just returned from Italy. Armed with this knowledge, the health workers brought the trio into the isolation ward for tests, which eventually proved positive. People who might have interacted with this family are also being monitored, the minister said.
Prior to Pathanamthitta outbreak, three persons in Kerala had tested positive for coronavirus. All three had returned from China. They were all treated, completely cured of their conditions and subsequently discharged.
According to statistics released recently, 637 persons are placed under observation in the State. Of these, 26 persons are native to Pathanamthitta district. 34 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the country so far. With five more case registered in Kerala, the tally adds up to 39, the minister told reporters.
