THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : With the deadly novel coronavirus now confirmed in 25 countries, Kerala placed 2,455 of its people under observation in various districts, said Health Minister KK Shailaja. Of them, 2431 are being monitored in their homes while 24 are admitted into different hospitals for the purpose. Samples from 389 people, suspected of exposure to the virus, had been sent to the National Virology Institute. Of these, 354 have tested negative for the virus. No one admitted into hospitals so far have worrisome health condition, the minister said.
Rapid Response Team(RRT) formed under leadership of KK Shailaaja, at the Health Directorate took stock of the situation. It prepared improvised monitoring guidelines based on which, 1040 individuals under observation in their homes, were taken off the list. Even so the Health Department continues to maintain vigil.
People returning from affected countries are put under strict observation for 28 days, though they might not show any symptoms of the virus. Also, they are instructed to remain indoors and avoid tripping to public places.
215 trained members have been deployed in different districts to take care of mental wellbeing of family members of an infected person. Telephonic counseling is also available by dialing 3264.
