Coronavirus : 5643 New Infections; 5834 Recoveries; 4951 Contact Cases; Deaths 27

Thiruvananthapuram : The state recorded  5643 fresh Covid-19 cases today taking the total for confirmed cases so far in the pandemic to 5,99,600. There were 4951 contact infections reported during the day, of which the virus source to 571 cases remains untraced. On other data for the day, there were 27 covid deaths and  5834 recoveries. With this, state death-toll in the pandemic rose to 2223 and recoveries to 5,32,658. A total of  64,589  persons remain under treatment currently. 

The new infections today include 87 cases pertaining  to travelers from states outside and  34 health workers.

Deaths: There were 27 covid deaths confirmed today including death of Professor and Head of Orthopedic Dept at Ernakulam Medical College Dr. EC Babukutty. The Health Minister KK Shailaja condoled the doctor’s death. He played an active role in several of the medical college initiatives.

Testing, quarantine and hotspots
62,27,787 samples have been subject to testing in the pandemic so far, - up by 49,775  in the past 24 hours. 

A total of 3,15,497  people are under observation currently of whom, 15,896  remain quarantined various hospitals and the remaining 2,99,601  are being monitored in their homes/institutions. 1840 people were newly admitted into hospitals during today for observation purposes. Presently 64,589 people remain under treatment in various hospitals across the state. 

There were 2 new hotspots  declared today, while 8 areas were taken off the list. Total hotspots currently in the state : 524.
