Court Extends Remand Of Alan, Taha; Should Be Allowed To Write Exams, Urges Alan

KOCHI : A Special Court in Kochi on Friday extended remand period of Alan Suhaib and Taha Fasal, the two youth nabbed by police from Kozhikode’s Panthirankauv last Nov, on UAPA charges. With today’s extension, the duo remains in custody until 13 March. Both were recently questioned by NIA - the agency looking into their alleged Maoist ties.

Meanwhile, Alan moved the High Court urging to be allowed to appear for upcoming   LLB exams. The second semester exams are due on 18 February. Alan had been barred from giving the third semester exams. However, the consent he seeks is for writing the second one. The court should give due consideration to the fact that he was a student, Alan’s petition reads.  Alan is student of Kannur University from Paliode Campus.


The High Court has asked NIA and Kannur University for their response on the matter. It has also called for a  detailed affidavit in this regard, before coming out with a verdict.
