THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : With lockdown restrictions now loosening up, one must continue to keep vigil for possible exposure to virus, said Health Minister KK Shailaja. Everybody must meticulously follow guidelines issued by the Health authorities.
Individuals with fever, cough or throat pain should not step outside of their homes and contact the department. Wearing masks all time when outdoors would be ideal.
Each must try to maintain a distance of 1 metre from the nearest individual. Washing hands frequently should become a habit and there should be no touching eyes, nose or mouth when outside. If there is a good level of caution observed, we can overcome the coronavirus pandemic successfully, the minister said.
Coronavirus typically attacks the respiratory system, the reason why nose and mouth should protected to high degree. Masks help us to do that to a large extent. They come in wide varieties : cloth mask, surgical masks, triple-layer and N-95 .
The type of mask one selects should correspond to the kind of risk one anticipates. The triple-layer and N-95 masks are largely meant for hospital staff. Masks also provides protection from airborne pathogens, the minister said.
