Kolkata : CPI(M) State Secretary in Tripura Com. Gautam Das has died following Covid complications at a private hospital in Kolkata. He was 70.
Gautam Das was flown to the Kolkata hospital by air ambulance when his health conditions owing to the infection grew serious. The illness worsened by Wednesday night with vital signs dipping. The end came early this morning.
Gautam Das entered politics through student activism. He became CPI(M) party member in 1971 and had served various organisational posts as student then. Later in 1985, Gautam Das became state committee member and rose to top post as State Secretary in 1994. He then became member of Central Committee in 2015.
Gautam Das was founder editor Desher Katha – the party daily started in 1979. Gautam Das continued in that post until 2015, during the period in which, he elated the daily to becoming the most prominent newspaper in Tripura.
