Kayamkulam : Congress Councillor from Kayamkulam Municipal Corporation has been taken into custody in connection with murder of CPI(M) worker Siyad, who was stabbed to death on Tuesday night while returning home after distributing food at a quarantine centre there. The victim Siyad was Rajan's 36-year-old son - a resident of Vaidhyantharayil Veedu near the fire station.
Those arrested include Congress Block Secretary and Municipal Councilor Kaavil Nivas and Faisal from Vidobha Ward, both of who are accused of helping the main accused make his escape. The culprit Vettu Mujeeb, after stabbing Siyad, hid in a locked godown and was later picked up by Kaavil Nivas, who rode him on scooter to his own house before dropping him home.
The gruesome murder took place at 10 pm on Tuesday. Two quotation gang assailants arrived on bike and ambushed Siyad on the road, knifing him on the leg first and then stabbing him on the chest as he fell to the ground. He died on the spot. The two also inflicted knife wounds on 43-year-old Siyadhi, who accompanied Siyad at that time. From there, Vettu Mujeeb proceeded to Koikkapadickal junction where he also attempted to stab Thundil Rajesi(33) at his house. Siyadhi and Rajeis are currently being treated at Kayamkulam Taluk hospital. Related to the case, police have also launched an extensive manhunt for Mujeeb’s gangman, a Koipadi junction native, Shajikinumayullah.
Siyad's body, after postmortem at Alappuzha Medical College on Wednesday, was laid to rest at Juma Masjid cemetery in Puthantheruvu. There was a hartal observed in Kayamkulam in protest of the killing.
