Thrissur : All assailants involved in Branch Secretary PU Sanoop’s murder were identified as active workers of BJP, RSS or Bajrang Dal. Police found their getaway car abandoned close to the Taluk hospital in Kunnamkulam. A forensic team arrived at the murder site to collect clues.
According to testimonies from the injured, Nandan, Satish, Sreeraj and Abiraj - all Bajrang Dal workers and have past criminal records - were involved in the attack. Among them, Nandan - a culprit in several criminal cases - stabbed Sanoop slumping him to the ground.
Three CPI(M) workers who were with Sanoop at that too were grievously injured. They are hospitalised in Kunumkulam where, condition of one is said to be critical. The gang comprised 8 men of whom 4 assailants participated in the attack.
Sanoop collapsed at the spot with stabs to his chest, stomach and abdomen. After stabbing Sanoop multiple times, the assailants chased other CPI(M) workers, running roughly 300 meters before attacking them with knives. There is a bloody trail all along this distance from the spot Sanoop lay dead.
One of Sannoop’s companions who was pursued by the killers and stabbed ran into a woman in a house nearby while bleeding profusely from his wounds. When asked what happened, he was trembling from fear and was unable to speak, the woman said.
