Puthumala : Crowds of mourners and victims’ families gathered Sunday night to watch flames burn from row of makeshift pyres at cremation ceremonies of the victims killed in Kerala’s most devastating landslides that occurred in Wayanad’s Mundakkai on 30 July.
While eight bodies laid to rest remain unidentified, relatives who lost loved ones stood by the burning pyres, pondering if those departing might also have one of their own missing kin.
Faced with terrain hurdles, the joint ceremonies were held on 64 cents of government land released by Harrison Malayalam Limited in Puthumala. In attendance at the cremation were ministers K Rajan, MB Rajesh, OR Kelu and AK Saseendran.
