Thiruvananthapuram : As low-pressure intensified over Lakshwadweep area at Arabian sea, the India Meteorological Department(IMD) . has classified as Cyclone named "Maha" and issued warning to Kerala.
Stormy conditions exist and people are strictly prohibited from venturing to the seas.
An Orange Alert has been issued to districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alapurzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Malappuram districts.
Though Kerala is not thoroughfare for cyclone Maha, its formation at shoreline could spill over to mainland.
MeT has forecast high speed winds and heavy rainfalls at several places in Kerala and the Disaster Management Authority has people advised against going to seaside.
As Maha, after earlier cyclone Kayrr arrives, strong winds and heavy rains are expected to lash coastal and hilly areas. Given the situation tourist trips to mountainous spots too have been put on hold, by authorities.
Fishing activities have been strictly prohibited in Kerala up to Saturday.
