Web Desk(Tvm)Updated: Wednesday Aug 10, 2022

Idukki :Tensions ease in settlements along Periyar as dam waters at Mullaperiyar inches down.  Water level at the dam currently stands at 139.20 ft from the previous 139.55 ft.  As inflow to the reservoir lessens,  water discharge from the dam too will be thinned. On the Idukki dam front, the influx from Mullaperiyar is well within the reservoir capacity. With rains easing in the catchment area, water level here has slid 2 ft lower.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast sporadic rains for Kerala on Thursday. Districts from Idukki to Kasaragod will go on Yellow Alert. Although the depression over Bay of Bengal intensified to severe depression, it will not have much bearing on Kerala. However, the IMD has put hillsides in state on caution, as places that witnessed landslides and mudslides recently, still remain vulnerable.

In five districts, where educational institutions are converted into relief camps, it is school holiday for next 5 days. The districts are : Alappuzha, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kottayam.  In some districts, on taluk basis, Collectors have put professional institutions on holiday as well.  Kuttanad taluk in Alappuzha has total holiday. However, in Pathanamthitta, Collector Dr. Divya S Iyer clarified, the university exams will  remain as scheduled.
