New Delhi : The country’s highest military official, General Bipin Rawat, has died along with 12 others including Rawat’s wife in the Indian Air Force(ID) helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu’s Conoor.Defense Chief General Bipin Rawat Is Dead; Death Toll In Chopper Crash 13; One Lone Survivor
According to reports, Rawat sustained 70-80 percent buns in the accident. The chopper was travelling from IAF base Sulur in Combatore to Defence Services Staff College in Wellington where, Rawat along with Chief of Army Staff MM Naravane, was scheduled to address a lecture session. The crash occurred shortly after the lif-t off.
Group Captain is the only survivor of the tragic accident. The crash was first reported around 12.20 pm this noon.
Rawat is India’s first Chief of Defence Staff*CDS) - a position established in 2019. High-level inquiry has been ordered into the accident.
