Alappuzha : Demolitions are underway at Kapica Resort villa project on Nediyathuruthu island over Vembanad lake. The razing down will be done in phases beginning first with villa units, two of which will be demolished today.
Kapico is a joint venture of Muthoot and Kuwait-based Kapico group that constructed 54 modern villas and other facilities on the Nediyathururth island in 2007. Batch of petitions were filed in 2013 on which the High Court ordered demolition of all structures for violating Coastal Regulation Zone(CZR) norms. This was followed by appeals and, in 2013, the Supreme Court reiterated demolitions upholding the High Court order.
Demolitions on the fragile terrain surrounded by lake was a cause of concern leading to delay in demolition proceedings. The delay also drew wrath of courts that pulled up local bodies for not executing court order. The district Collector Krishna Theja took possession of the property last week and put action chart in place. At first pictures of all items in the interior and exterior shall be videoed and mahasar prepared before actual demolitions in the day.
