Depression At Arabian Sea; Orange Alert In 4 Districts Today

Thiruvananthapuram : The cyclonic circulation over Arabian Sea appears set to intensify into low pressure by tomorrow meaning, the State will likely witness heavy rainfall today. Orange Alert has been issued for today in four in four districts - Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki. Districts elsewhere are on Yellow Alert. The Indian Meteorological Dept(IMD) sounded vigil to hilly areas which must also observe Orange Alert cautions, it said. The IMD stated the heavy rains could continue in State for the next five days.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram experienced unusually heavy rainfall and flood alert has been issued in Karamana, Neyyar and Vamanapuram river regions. City authorities continue efforts to clear water-logging in the capital. Kazhakuutam, Vellayani and Kuttichal experienced heavy inundation. 875 people were moved into 27 camps set up in the district.

Fisherfolks have been warned against taking to seas from coasts of Kerala and Lakshadweep. Karnataka has no such restriction. Strong winds with speeds up to 40 - 45 kmph that could escalate further  to 55 kmph are predicted along Kerala coasts, stated IMD.
