Thiruvananthapuram : Children in Adivasi settlements will be prioritised and online classes ensured for all of them, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday. The announcement came a high-level meeting to deliver digital education to all.
Children lacking digital facilities should be able to pursue their studies, said CM. It is uncertain how long the pandemic will loom. Hence education the digital way is an absolute must. To be able to continue studies, children should own digitial means like they earlier owned school texts and notebooks. There are children who lack digital equipments. Then there are ones who have digital accessories but lack connectivity in their area . Deprivations of both kinds should be identified and addressed in all districts, said CM.
Priority should be given to resolve issues in Adivasi regions. In places without electricity, generators and solar panels should be arranged for. Arrangements will be made on tribal seetlement(oor) basis, said CM. Charities from donors shall be used to buy digital equipments for these children. A separate fund will be set up for the purpose. Internet providers will be approached to elicit free connectivity free in Adivasi settlements. School PTAs should evaluate how many of their children are in need of digital means. Aid may be sought from former students, generous donors, NRIs etc. A wide campaign should be launched for the purpose, said CM.
At the meeting, CM entrusted the Chief Secretary with responsibility of forming committee to resolve problems faced in digital education.
In attendance at the meeting were Minister for Local self Bodies MV Govidnan, Minister for Schedule caste schedule tribe K Radhakrishnan, Education Minister V Sivankutty, Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty, Chief Secretary Dr/ VP Joy, and secretaries and directors of various departments.
