KOCHI : NIA on Wednesday arrested three more suspects in connection with the sensational gold smuggling case. Those taken into custody were identified as Malappuram natives Jalal(38), Muhammad Shafi(37) and Hajjath Ali(51). All three reportedly made sizeable investments toward gold that came by diplomatic channel at Thiruvananthapuram airport on 5 July and in similar instances before.
According to Customs, confessions from Rameez, who was arrested early in the case, led to the arrest of the latest trio.
There were three arrests, including that of Thodupuzha native Jalal, made yesterday too.
The three nabbed today are said to be have been tasked with finding customers for smuggled gold and raising fund for contraband. All three have been produced before Kochi’s Additional Court for economic offences.
