Dr. Ciza Thomas’s Plea dismissed; Govt Free To Pursue Action

Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala Administrative Tribunal dismissed Dr. Ciza Thomas’s plea seeking to quash  Show Cause Notice the government issued her for violating rules. The Tribunal clarified the notice cannot be annulled and further that the government was free to pursue proceedings pertaining to the notice.

The  Show Cause Notice seeks Ciza to explain how she assumed post as interim Vice Chancellor at Kerala Technical University(KTU) without first taking permission from the government. The Notice seeks explanation for violating rules while on government service.

On March 16, the Tribunal directed government to file  its esponse on Ciza’s plea within a week and also said no action shall be taken against her till  a ruling on the plea is handed. The Tribunal sat on the plea hearing today and dismissed Cisa's plea.

Backdrop: Ciza thomas was  appointed as interim VC by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in November last year, when he was Senior Joint Director of Technical Education Department.

The Government Employees Rules stipulates that no employee shall assume any post without approval of the government. Hence, Ciza was put on notice as to how she accpeted the VC post without do that.

Currently, Sisa Thomas is the Principal of Government College of Engineering, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram.
