Thiruvananthapuram : The Cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to appoint Dr. V Venu as Chief Secretary and Dr. Shaik Darvesh Sabeb as DGP. Current ChiefSecretary VP Joy and State DGP Anil Kant are due to retire on 30 June.
Dr. V Venu is a 1990-batch IAS officer and is currently the Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Home, Vigilance and Environment. His wife Sharada Muraleedharan is Additional Chief Secretary and was active in art and cultural activities from her student days at Kozhikode Medical College. She has scripted several dramas.
Dr. Venu is son of Vasudeva Panicker, who was an official with the Union Ministry of Labour, and PT Rajama, Professor of Gynecology Dept at Kozhikode Medical College. He started his career as Pala Sub-Collector. His later posts panned out as Secretary (Excise) Board of Revenue, Director Department of Employment & Training, MD Bekal Resort Development Corporation Kannur District Collector, Director Tourism Department, Secretary Tourism Department, Special Officer NRI Cell Norka, Secretary Culture Department. Seven served as Deputy Secretary of Central Tourism Department and Excise Commissioner. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Rebuild Kerala. Later he worked as Additional Chief Secretary of Planning & Economics Affairs and Member Secretary of State Planning Board.

Shaik Darvesh Saheb is a 1190-batch IPS officer who is currently the Director General of Fire and Rescue Dept.
Shaikh started his career as ASP in Kerala cadre and served in Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kannur, Worked as SP in Palakkad, Railways, State Special Branch and Commandant in MSP, KAP 2nd Battalion. Served as Governor's ADC and as part of United Nations Mission in Kosovo. He also worked as Kochi City Police Commissioner in the SP rank. Dr. Shaik has attended several overseas trainings including in the US.
After being promoted as ADGP, Dr. Shaik served as Police Headquarters, Vigilance, Crime Branch, North Region, Law and Order, Director of Kerala Police Academy and Superintendent of Jails. A post graduate in Agriculture, he went on to do Doctorate in Agronomy and MBA in Finance. He was Assistant Director and Deputy Director at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. SBCID, Dr. Shaik also served as IG atPolice Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur Range and Armed Police Battalion. Worked as Additional Excise Commissioner and Director of Kerala Police
Dr. Shaik was awarded the President's Police Medal in 2016 for distinguished service and the Indian Police Medal in 2007 for meritorious service. He is also recipient of the Ati Utkrishta Seva Pathak and United Nations Peace Keeping Medal.
Dr. Shaik’s wife Sheikh Farida Fatima is a native of Andhra Pradesh. Children : Dr. Aisha Alia and Faraz Muhammad. Son-in-law Muhammad Ifthekar.
