Thiruvananthapuram : Freedom to choice of dressing is every individual’s democratic right - one that’s envisaged by the Constitution, said CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan. The Party secretary was responding to State Committee member Adv Anil Kumar’s comment.
When Anil Kumar spoke he broached on the problem relating to Muslim women’s attire. MV Govindan said : We know, when problems arouse around the country, especially in connection with hijab, the Party clarified it does not see a woman or ordinary people dressing a certain way or otherwise, as an issue for court.
Choice of dress is right of every human being, a right guaranteed by the Constitution. The national and leadership clarified this when the hijab controversy rose. Therefore, it is futile for anyone to delve into the democratic right namely freedom to dress. I do not wish to criticise a person’s way of dressing and suggest a certain way or otherwise of dressing to anyone. Thus, Anil Kumar’s remarks are in departure from Party’s view. This is to clarify the official stance of Party in this regard, said MV Govindan.
