Kochi: Mathrubhumi had refrained from mentioning DYFI in its news on plasma donation campaign despite the fact that the party workers had heralded the drive throughout the state. However, the paper has now made up for the lapse, publishing the entire story with appropriate credits.
Mathrubhumi in its news recently said ‘youths from a certain organisation had volunteered to donate plasma” ignored the crucial fact that, recovered virus patients belonging to DYFI had organized the drive and volunteered to make the plasma donation themselves.
DYFI and several Left leaders had raised brows over the reporting style and tactical omission. In the press conference held Monday, the state secretary AA Rahim made a special mention of the gaping lapse. These developments ultimately worked to prompt Mathrubhumi to come out with an accurate news, this time mentioning DYFI’s active involvement and donations in the campaign.
The daily explained the omission saying the hospital did not specify identities of the donors in any manner and hence the lapse. Making amends, it’s repeat version is elaborate on the campaign and DYFI endeavour.
The Backdrop
On Che Guevara Martyrdom Day of 9 October, DYFI had launched a statewide campaign on plasma donations. The event series had captured wide attention and appreciation from several quarters.
