Kottayam : Kailasnath(23) whose humanitarian activities in Kottayam drew scores of people close to him and CPI(M)’s DYFI, has become role model even in death, lending new lease of life to seven persons.
Kailasnath is committee member of Alumood unit of the DYFI in Puthanangadi region. A bike accident near Kurushupalli on Saturday fatally wounded Kailasnath who was admitted to Kottayam Medical College hospital. Although all efforts were mobilised to save his life, Kailasnath grew brain dead. Kailasnath’s heart, liver, both kidneys, and pancreas were donated to Kottayam Medical College.
Four liver transplant surgeries were performed using organs from Kailasnath - the first time that the Medical College did a liver transplant from brain dead individual. The State Government’s organ donation system K-SOTO was used to effect the organ transfer.
The Health Minister Veena George said she shared the extreme grief of Kailasnath’s family who offered to donate his organs at a tragic moment like this. Kailasnath, who was an active DYFI worker lend hope to lives of people even in his death. I offer thanks on behalf of those seven recipients. Kialasnath’s activism and deeds will bolster strength for the young generation, the minister said.
