Kanhangad, KASARAGOD: Muslim League men stabbed a DYFI worker in Kanhangad's Old Beach. The slain youth, Ouph Abdurehman(27) was member of Kaloorayi Unit Committee.

The incident took place 10.30pm  last night. Ouph was on his bike way home, after borrowing some money from a friend to show his pregnant wife to a hospital, when the assailants blocked him at Mundathode and stabbed him with knife. Ouph suferred stab wounds close below his chest. Sufaibh, the friend who was accompanying Ouph at the time, too sustained injuries in the attack.

Ouph  was a Gulf employee and had returned only 6 months before. The provocation stemmed from Muslim League anger over several of its  members in the area supporting LDF in the civic body elections, not withstanding that  Kalloorayi was a League fortress .

Last week, League workers had attacked another family in the neighbourhood including its female members and spread visuals of their rampage widely. Nine League workers were booked by police in that incident.  Post the election results, League workers unleashed series of attacks targeting  CPI(M) and DYFI workers.

The CPI(M) District Committee protested last night’s killing. The violence unleashed by Muslim League over inandequate poll performance and failing to get clear  majority in Kalloorayi, must end, said District Secretary MV Balakrishnan.

Ouph is son of Alambadi Usmadeen’s daughter Aysha and Abdulla Darima. Shaheena is his wife and Jubariah, his sister.
