Kochi : KPCC president K Sudhakaran’s confidante, Ebin reportedly received Rs 15 lakhs from fake antique dealer Monson Mavunkal. Records show Ebin was onson’s employee and was bestowed with huge sums of money apart from his bigtime salary.
Interestingly, while Monson’s employee records - now with Crime Branch - show Ebin was his employee, Sudhakaran maintains Ebin as his Personal Staff.
Even so, investigators believe much of the money Ebin received from Monson was in form of direct cash. One complainant alleged he paid Ebin Rs 25 lakh in cash.
Witnesses told Crime Branch Monson showered Ebin with expensive gifts. Hoping to corroborate, investigators are filtering through Ebin’s financial records and that of his relatives. As of now, records in possession with the Crime Branch reflect amounts that sum to lesser than a lakh
Footage surfaced earlier of Ebin visiting complainants - Thrissur native Anoop Muhammad and MT Shemir from Kozhikode - in a bid to influence them. The footage shows Ebin promising money and construction works in Lakshwadeep as reward for withdrawing their complaint. The two men however refuse to budge. Ebin tried to dissuade Monson’s driver in similar fashion, so he agrees not to give witness account. Crime Branch suspects all these reward money Ebin is promising, comes from Monson.
Monson’s regular payments to Ebin came in form monthly salary as his employee. According to Monson, when his bank accounts were freezed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act(FEMA), he started to use employee accounts to transit money. The contact number and email address attached to the salary account is confirmed as belonging to Monson.
