Malappuram : Enforcement Directorate(ED) raids homes of leaders belonging to the banned outfit, Popular Front of India. The raids are focused on second-tier leaders living in Manjeri, Azhikode region in Malappuram. Raids are also in progress in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Wayanad districts. The sleuths are conducting their inspections amid much security that include presence of personnel from CRPF and the police.
The houses under raid are that of : Mancheri native Abdul Jaleel, Karaparambu native Hamsa and Azikode native Nurul Amin - all of who are former PFI activists. The ED raid is related to scrutiny of Popular Front's financial trails.
ED officials from the Kochi unit ascended premises roughly 7 am Monday morning. Inspections are in progress at 11 places including houses of PFI leader Latif Pokakilam in Chavakkad’s Moonamkadav and former PFI district president Jammal Muhammad in Kumbalam.
Nurul Amin is a Arabic teacher at Subulu Salam Higher Secondary School in Moorkanadu. A Shapinkunnu native and SDPI was arrested by ED couple of days back. His finances are also under scrutiny.
The raids come on intelligence suspicions that PFI ‘sleeper cells’ are still active in Kerala. In August, the NIA team confiscated Popular Front building in Manjeri’s Green valley that served as training hub for cadres in the NDF that had merged with PFI. According to NIA, nefarious activities are conducted under guise of charitable and educational institutions
