WAYANAD : The Minister for Education, C Ravindranath, visited Shahala’s home and offered personal condolences to the bereaved family. Agriculture Minister P S Sunil Kumar accompanied him on the visit.
Tight security was put in place anticipating protests in the area. A group of demonstrators showed black flags to the minister’s car at Kalpetta.
Shahala died on 20 Nov, owing to delayed medical treatment, after being bitten by a snake inside the classroom during school hours.
Police have registered a case indicting the school principal A K Karunakaran, the Vice President KK Mohanan, teacher Shijil and Taluk Hospital doctor Jees.
Based on Special Branch report, the accused persons have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The govt has assured stringent action against those guilty in the incident.
The school Principal and Vice Principal in charge of day-to-day affairs, were sent on suspension on Friday, 22 Nov. The teacher Shijil, who was allegedly callous after the snake-bite happened, was suspended earlier.
