Thiruvananthapuram : What happened in Pathanamthitta’s Elanthoor is extremely shocking, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. According to reports, two women were strangulated and their dead bodies buried after dismemberment. Only people sick to their minds carry out such depraved acts. These kind of sado-rituals pose challenge to a civilised society, said CM.
The missing case registered in Kandvantra on 26 September led police to these gruesome crimes. The culprits in their testimonies stated the killings were part of their superstitious beliefs. It is diligent police work that led to connecting the two crimes, said CM.
It is incomprehensible for Kerala how persons can be abducted and murdered for sake of money and gratifying superstitious beliefs. Alongside punishments for the crime, there must also happen broader awareness that help identify such depravities. Each must endeavour to bring such matters to public attention and prevent such incidents from happening, said CM.
Police are doing all they can to bring all involved persons before law at an early time. There will stringent legal consequences for the guilty, said CM.
Backdrop : A woman from Kochi’s Kandavantra and another from Kaladi were abducted, strangulated and their bodies dismembered by the same group of culprits. The first woman was reported missing on 26 Sept and the Kaladi victim later.
