Backdrop : Suspect Sharukh Saif walked into D2 compartment of Kannur Express from D1, late Sunday night close to 9.30 pm. He threw petrol on passengers around and lit fire. Three, including a infant, jumped out to save themselves but the bid proved fatal and all died. Nine others sustained burns. The incident took place between Elathur and Kolandy in Kozhikode.
Sharukh, a Noida native, was on the run. A multi-agency hunt ensued and he was nabbed from Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri three days after the incident.
