Kochi: Records are out pertaining to irregular appointments made at Kerala House during UDF tenure. The Oomen Chandy government rendered permanent status to 38 contractual staff who were on job for just three years. The decision for this came at a cabinet meeting held on 25 Feb, 2015. The out-of-the-way appointments were made overriding opposition from additional chief secretary to Finance Dept, KM Abraham. Secretary to General Adminstration, KR Jyothilal too had recorded his dissent. They reminded the government that persons without 10 years of service cannot be considered for permanent employment. However, the government sidelined all such advice to benefit persons close to them.
The cabinet at that time took a never-before decision that those completing 2 or 3 years of service in govt departments may be regularised. And, the recommendation for the irregular appointments came forwarded via Thiruvananthapuram DCC. NGO Association Speaker Shaktan Nadar and R Selvaraj were among MLAs that endorsed the recommendation. Interestingly, the UDF leaders including Ramesh Chennithala who are now up in arms against the LDF govt for regularizing employment of those with 10-year service , were very much part of the cabinet that made those bizarrely out-of-turn appointments.
