Nemom, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : CPI(M) will rule Kaliyoor panchayat that BJP held until now. LDF took charge after defeating BJP presidential candidate in the presidential election held today, Saturday. In the vote turnout, LDF’s M Somashekaran defeated BJP’s candidate and former president, Chandu Krishna by a 11 : 9 majority.
LDF had passed no-confidence Motion against the Panchayat administration the last month. BJP was going about the governance acting like a single largest party, when in fact it did not have even so much as a simple majority. In the 21-member Panchayat BJP held 10 seats, LDF 9 and Congress 2.
The no-confidence Motion against Chandu Krishana had passed in a 11: 9 majority. The flip came with BJP member Sudharma and Congress member Shantimati voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.
LDF members alleged that Kalliyoor panchayat was rampant with corruption after the BJP-led governing body assumed power. Several temporary posts such as driver, data entry operator, hospital staff etc came to be appointed without any kind of test and interview. And also, instead of protecting Vellayani backwaters with all its rich diversity, underhand deals were rife and permits granted for all kinds of illegal constructions. All these were reason why the no-confidence Motion was moved.
