Ernakulam: The two women raising allegations of covid treatment lapses at Ernakulam Medical College – a nursing officer, Jalajadevi via her WhatsApp clip and a temporary junior doctor, Dr Najma, on television – never did a single shift at covid wards of the hospital, said authorities. The revelation came at a press conference attended by the principal Dr. Satish, Superintend Dr. Peter Vazhayil and Covid Nodal officer Dr. Fatahuddin.
The nursing officer Jalajadevi’s arrival at the hospital was on back of her job promotion three months ago and is currently on a one-month leave. She never worked at a covid ward dressed in the PPE kit. She attended the meeting convened by RMO on zoom from her residence soon after which, she came out with the controversial audio clip on WhatsApp.
In case of the junior doctor, there is no instance when she attended the patient held out in her allegation. If there is a lapse noticed, MBBS pass-outs can bring the matter to the attention of senior doctors at the hospital. The alleged victim Harris was admitted to the hospital on 26th June. He was in ICU for 24 days in very serious condition. The DMO had been updated on the patient’s condition on daily basis. On the day before the death occurred, oxygen levels in his body was extremely low. Harris never recover from his covid infection right up to the end. He was put on ventilator all day and night. Tubes do not come off the mask or oxygen cylinder. In his deteriorated health condition, it was impossible to have him moved outt of ICU. Claiming there took place a decision to move him to the ward is preposterous and wrong, the authorities told media.
